about

This song was written from the perspective of Elizabeth when John leaped for joy in her whom at the mere presence of Jesus in the whom of Mary. As we approach the joy of Christmas, we must experience the hope and waiting of Advent. It is because of this pull, this tension - that hope gives birth to joy - that we as a band hoped to put into song. Mary and Elizabeth serve as great examples for us in this day and age where Christmas has become almost dull even as it has become more and more secularized: Mary holds Jesus in her physical womb, just as we should have Him in our "wombs of hope," and Elizabeth responds to her with GREAT joy, as we should respond to the presence of Christ in our neighbors, brothers, and sisters.

As always, however, this hope and this joy is only realized if Christ is at the center of our understanding. Just as Christ was overlooked by the world as He was born in a manger, so too today we are in danger of missing Him beneath all of our lights, elves, and trees. The bridge serves as a sort of plea,

"We heard of Your prophets,

But what is there to profit?

If we don't realize with joy

This Child fulfills them all!"
